The CACHE: Understanding Autism Spectrum Conditions in Education course is designed to equip educators, teaching assistants, and support workers with a comprehensive understanding of autism and how it affects children and young people in educational settings. Drawing from current research, real-life case studies, and UK educational policy, the course highlights the wide range of experiences found across the autism spectrum and helps learners challenge common misconceptions while promoting empathy and awareness.

Participants will explore how autism influences cognitive processing, sensory experiences, language, social interaction, and behaviour. With a strong focus on classroom inclusion, the course provides strategies for adapting learning environments, developing communication techniques, and supporting emotional wellbeing. Lessons also guide learners through the creation and implementation of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring that support is tailored to meet each learner’s unique needs.

The course further emphasizes the importance of working collaboratively with families, SENCOs, and multi-agency teams to ensure consistency and advocacy for autistic learners. Participants will gain insight into the legal frameworks that govern SEND support in the UK, including the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures, and equalities legislation. By the end of the course, learners will be empowered to support autistic students effectively and contribute to more inclusive, respectful, and legally compliant educational environments.
