The CACHE: Supporting Literacy & Numeracy in Primary Education course is designed to provide aspiring and current teaching assistants with the practical tools and theoretical understanding required to enhance core skill development in primary school settings. It covers the foundational elements of literacy and numeracy, aligned with UK educational standards, while emphasising the importance of tailored, inclusive, and evidence-based support practices.

The course begins by introducing the central role of literacy and numeracy in early education and the critical function of support staff in helping pupils reach key milestones. Learners explore the national curriculum expectations and develop a deeper understanding of how to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and specialists to support each child's unique learning journey.

In literacy, modules focus on reading progression, writing mechanics, communication development, and specific support strategies for EAL learners. In numeracy, the course explores early mathematical concepts, problem-solving, and the use of hands-on resources. Students will also learn how to use assessment data such as phonics screening and SATs to monitor progress and guide their interventions effectively.
